In the interview above University of Pennsylvania President, Amy Guttman, sits down with Fox Business and claims that the return on a college education has never been greater. Based in this assertion Guttman also emphasizes the problem that many people find when pursuing a college degree, debt. For the 2011-2012 school year lowest earning families were paying almost half of their annual income to pay tuition, after accounting for grants and scholarships. Guttman states that getting a college education is more important that ever before because we need to invest in the future of our country by training these up and coming generations. The questioning of the value of a college education most of the time arises from those who greatly consider the finanacial aspect of receiving said education. Guttman also informs Fox Business that one of the largest issues is that many students take out loans for a college education, and don't even finish to earn a degree. This is a problem for many reasons, mainly because people are investing in their education but not finishing. In a society where it has become more important than ever to pursue higher education, we need to make sure that students are able to access higher learning. We cannot leave some people behind due to the reason that some are not financially stable enough to afford a college education. The problem lies within the price tag attached to a college degree, one of which one are not suited to handle.
